Langtang Valley Trek

Trip Overview

The Langtang Valley Trek is one of the most accessible and rewarding high-altitude journeys in Nepal, leading into a beautiful glacier-carved valley just north of Kathmandu, often described as the "valley of glaciers." This 12-day package takes you from Zurich into Langtang National Park, home to dramatic mountain scenery, dense rhododendron forest, and the unique Tamang culture of the region, all within a shorter timeframe than the longer treks of the Everest or Annapurna regions.

After flying from Zurich to Kathmandu, you'll drive by private tourist vehicle to Syabru Besi, the gateway to the Langtang Valley, to begin trekking. The trail follows the Langtang Khola upstream through dense forest to Lama Hotel, continuing on to Langtang village, a settlement rebuilt after the devastating 2015 earthquake and now a testament to the resilience of the local Tamang community. From here, the route climbs to Kyanjin Gompa, a small monastery settlement set beneath the towering peaks of Langtang Lirung, where a dedicated acclimatization and exploration day allows time to soak in the high-altitude scenery, visit the local monastery and cheese factory, and simply enjoy the tranquility of this remote Himalayan valley.

The return journey retraces the trail back through Lama Hotel to Syabru Besi, before driving back to Kathmandu for a final night before your international departure. Throughout the trek, accommodation is in welcoming local guesthouses, offering a genuine, low-key mountain experience alongside the warm hospitality of the Tamang and Sherpa communities who call this valley home.

Combining spectacular mountain views, rich cultural encounters, and a shorter, more accessible itinerary than many other Himalayan treks, the Langtang Valley Trek is an excellent choice for travelers seeking a genuine high-altitude adventure within a more compact timeframe.
