The information on this page is intended primarily for travelers booking their Nepal journey directly with Adventure Reisen from Switzerland.

Visa and immigration regulations are determined by the Government of Nepal, not Adventure Reisen, and may change without notice.

Nepal Visa for Swiss Citizens

Swiss citizens traveling to Nepal for tourism require a Nepal Tourist Visa.

Under the current Nepal immigration rules, holders of Swiss passports are eligible to obtain a Tourist Visa on Arrival because Switzerland is not among the nationalities excluded from the Visa on Arrival system.

A visa may also be obtained from a Nepalese diplomatic mission before departure.

Tourist Visa on Arrival

For most Adventure Reisen customers traveling with a Swiss passport, the easiest option is normally to obtain the Tourist Visa after arriving in Nepal.

Nepal currently offers the following Tourist Visa options:

These are currently issued as multiple-entry tourist visas.

Select a visa duration that covers the entire period you intend to remain in Nepal.

Arrival at Kathmandu Airport

At Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, the current Visa on Arrival process generally involves:

1. Completing the Arrival Card and Tourist Visa application;

2. Paying the applicable visa fee; and

3. Presenting your passport, application information, and payment confirmation to immigration.

Nepal's Department of Immigration also provides an online Tourist Visa application process.

We recommend completing available online formalities before departure where practical.

Passport Requirements

Before traveling from Switzerland, make sure that:

• Your passport is valid for the required period;

• Your passport has sufficient blank pages;

• Your flight booking uses the same name as your passport;

• Your passport is in good condition; and

• You carry copies of important travel documents.

We recommend keeping both printed and secure electronic copies of your passport and travel insurance information.

Obtaining a Visa Before Traveling

Instead of obtaining a Visa on Arrival, travelers may apply for a Tourist Visa through a Nepalese Embassy or other authorized Nepalese diplomatic mission. This may be useful if you prefer to complete immigration arrangements before leaving Switzerland. Travelers should follow the current requirements published by Nepal's Department of Immigration or the relevant Nepalese diplomatic mission. 

• You can obtain a Nepalese visa from the Nepalese Consulate in your home country. Alternatively, you can get a Nepalese visa upon your arrival at Kathmandu Airport. • To make it easier, you can fill out the Nepalese Tourist Visa form online. Here’s the link to the Department of Immigration’s website. The online form is valid for 15 days, so make sure to fill it out within 15 days before your arrival date. After completing the form, you’ll receive a receipt by email. Remember to print this receipt and carry it with you, as you’ll need to show it to immigration authorities upon your arrival in Nepal. Customers Living in Switzerland With a Non-Swiss Passport

Adventure Reisen welcomes customers of different nationalities residing in Switzerland.

Visa eligibility is based primarily on your passport nationality, not simply your country of residence.

Nepal currently states that nationals of the following countries are not eligible for Visa on Arrival:

• Afghanistan

• Cameroon

• Ethiopia

• Ghana

• Iraq

• Liberia

• Nigeria

• Palestine

• Somalia

• Syria

• Zimbabwe

• Eswatini/Swaziland

These travelers should obtain the appropriate Nepal visa before travel.

If you live in Switzerland but travel using a non-Swiss passport, please check the requirements applicable to your nationality before departure.

Tourist Visa Extensions

If you remain in Nepal longer than your original visa period, you may apply for an extension subject to Nepalese immigration rules.

Nepal currently permits tourist stays to be extended up to a total maximum of 150 days in a visa year, subject to the applicable requirements and fees.

Travelers are personally responsible for ensuring that their immigration status remains valid.

Visa and Trekking Permits Are Different

Your Nepal Tourist Visa gives you permission to enter Nepal.

It does not replace the trekking and activity permits required for certain Adventure Reisen journeys.

Depending on your itinerary, permits may include:

• Annapurna Conservation Area permits;

• Sagarmatha National Park permits;

• Manaslu Conservation Area permits;

• Restricted Area Permits;

• Local municipality permits;

• Other national park or conservation permits;

• Peak climbing permits; or

• Mountaineering expedition permits.

The exact permits required depend on your itinerary.

Permit Arrangements Through Adventure Reisen

Where trekking, climbing, or expedition permits are specifically included in your Adventure Reisen package, we will coordinate the required arrangements with our authorized partners and relevant authorities in Nepal.

You may need to provide:

• A clear passport copy;

• Passport photographs;

• Travel insurance information;

• Emergency contact information;

• Flight information; and

• Additional documentation required by Nepalese authorities.

Please provide requested documentation promptly.

Restricted Trekking Areas

Certain regions of Nepal have special government requirements.

These can include destinations such as:

• Manaslu;

• Upper Mustang;

• Nar and Phu Valley;

• Upper Dolpo; and

• Other designated restricted areas.

Additional permits and authorized guiding arrangements may be required.

Adventure Reisen will advise you of the requirements applicable to the itinerary you have booked.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is separate from your Nepal visa.

For Adventure Reisen trekking and expedition programs, comprehensive insurance is strongly recommended and may be required for particular trips.

For high-altitude programs, ensure that your insurance covers:

• The maximum altitude of your trek;

• Emergency medical treatment;

• Helicopter rescue and evacuation;

• Repatriation;

• Trekking at altitude; and

• Climbing or mountaineering where relevant.

International Flight Transit Requirements

Many flights from Switzerland to Nepal connect through another country.

Depending on your passport nationality, route, and airport, transit visa requirements may apply.

Check the rules for all transit countries before departure.

Adventure Reisen can provide information about your itinerary, but the traveler remains responsible for obtaining any required transit authorization.

Adventure Reisen can provide general support relating to:

• Nepal Tourist Visa information;

• Your confirmed Nepal itinerary;

• Accommodation details;

• Trekking permit documentation;

• Arrival information; and

• Documents relating to your confirmed booking.

However, Adventure Reisen is not an embassy or immigration authority.

We cannot guarantee:

• Issuance of a visa;

• Visa approval;

• Immigration processing times;

• Acceptance of documents; or

• Entry into Nepal.

Final decisions are made solely by Nepalese immigration authorities.

Important Notice

Visa fees and entry rules can change.

Before leaving Switzerland, always verify the latest information directly with the Department of Immigration, Government of Nepal, or an official Nepalese diplomatic mission.

The current Nepal Department of Immigration information confirms Tourist Visa on Arrival fees of USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days, and USD 125 for 90 days.
